Timeless Teachings in a Changing World

At Marvin Academy, students are given information about various learning and teaching styles, multiple intelligences, and cultural styles. They are helped to create a learning profile for themselves. Although instruction will be differentiated to allow students to master core content and skills as they progress, students are expected to challenge themselves to stretch beyond their comfort zones, so that they are prepared for what they may encounter in college and/or careers.

Students also have the opportunity to be mentored by teachers, community members, or other students. We also encourage them to help tutor others. Peer mentoring has been found to be one of the most effective tools to increase academic performance, boost self-esteem, and model social skills.

Whenever possible, Marvin Academy students are exposed to community sites and resources in learning experiences. Those might include inviting local entrepreneurs and leaders to school or visiting historic sites. Marvin Academy students also give back to the community through several service-leadership projects.
