Welcome to Marvin Academy! We are so excited to get to know you!
I began the process of opening this school in March of 2016 when I was approached by families looking for something beyond what many larger schools could offer. I never imagined opening a school when I started my career as a high school math and science teacher but I always enjoyed developing and writing curriculum. I felt that God was calling me to take a leap of faith and I begin my research. My heart longed for something more than just a building for academics. I imagined a school where children could learn so many amazing things, while also feeling like they were at home. Where students could strive to be anything they set their hearts and minds out to be.
I envisioned a school that went beyond the standard curriculum and instead incorporated real-life connections that could carry throughout adulthood. With prayers, dedication, and amazing staff, we have been able to make that dream a reality! Marvin Academy is a school of faith, love, passion, and triumph. It is our main goal to ensure that each and every student has the best learning experience possible and realizes their true potential. We believe it is very important to inspire the students to take charge of their academics and learn to be responsible and successful in life.
Jarrika Coutchure, Head of School
Every student will develop the academic, social, and life skills necessary to lead them to a healthy and fulfilling life. A partnership with parents/guardians is essential to support a student's education, and Marvin Academy encourages families to establish and develop a bond with the teachers and staff.
We design our curriculum to complement the students rather than the students conforming to the curriculum. Our top priority is always to provide the best learning experience imaginable for each student.
Our teachers utilize hands-on activities and real-life examples to help demonstrate the learning objectives. We work closely with students to identify how they learn best and then help them to develop strategies to tackle difficult learning challenges. We challenge students to set high expectations for themselves and we celebrate all of their successes along the way.
At Marvin, we believe in serving the whole child. We incorporate an integrated approach that includes social, emotional, and academic learning. We want our students to become caring, kind, and responsible adults.
Our curriculum encompasses traditional state standards, project-based learning, and hands-on instruction. Although we align our curriculum with Union County Public schools, we do not teach Common Core Standards. We always ensure that our students are receiving the skills they need to be successful in an ever-changing global society.
